So apparently the girl who found herself in someone else-s arms and inspired Keith Urban-s song “You-ll Think Of Me’ didn-t have a cat. Or if she did have a cat, Keith did not want her to take it with her when she took her records, freedom, and memories that he didn-t need.
He just wanted her to take her cap, but he still wanted her to leave his sweater.
That-s right, the line that so many of us have sang as “take your cat and leave my sweater, we have nothing left to weather’ is actually, “take your CAP and leave my sweater’ Makes sense, right?
So to get this straight, this girl cheated on Keith and left him broken hearted. Keith has thoughts of her keeping him awake and wants her to come get her baggage so he can move on. He knows she will eventually think of him and want him back, but he will have moved on with his life by then. Oh, and he wants her to take her cap, not her cat.
So the next time you hear this oldie but goody from your favorite Australian country star and you start to sing along, remember Keith wanted to keep the cat. Wonder how Nicole feels about caring for Keith-s exes cat?

Depending on who you ask, this line from Jimi Hendrix’s 1967 hit “Purple Haze” is probably the most famous misunderstood lyric of all time. This is more than likely due in large part to the fact that Jimi Hendrix is widely considered to be the most popular of all ’60′s rockers. Dead or alive.

Because many people have heard the version “Excuse while I kiss this guy” in concert, they will swear up and down that this was the line in the recording. What people should do though is take the meaning on the song as a whole and see which verion makes more sense, ” Escuse me while I kiss the sky”, or “kiss this guy”.

It’s no secret at this point that because of the amount of references Jimi made to drugs in his songs, Purple Haze being no exception, “kiss the sky” makes more sense. That, and the fact that he said in an interview once that the song was inspired by a dream in which he was underwater. Jimi Hendrix wasn’t the type of artist who wrote extensively about or exuded sexuality in his songs and concerts. Maybe the people who hear “kiss this guy” when they hear the song wish that he had?

“Yellow Ledbetter” was released in 1992 by the band Pearl Jam as a b-side to their hit single “Jeremy”. The song was originally an outtake for the album “Ten”, but made its way on the radio anyway. The song was written by vocalist Eddie Vedder, bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Mike McCready.

The lyrics of “Yellow Ledbetter” are left open to interpretation. Many fans dismiss the lyrics completely, saying the Eddie Vedder’s voice is meant to be an instrument itself and the words that he’s saying don’t mean anything concrete. This seems to make sense, as the song itself is written entirely in sentence fragments, as if Vedder simply made up words off the top of his head without considering the meaning, instead just saying what goes through his head.

It is also suggested that “Yellow Ledbetter” is a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, as Mike McCready’s interpretation of “Little Wing”.

It can be imagined the Vedder, Ament, and McCready simply sat down to play a little one day, and as McCready draws out some interpretation of “Little Wing”, Vedder just sings along with whatever comes off the top of his head. Regardless, the series of sentence fragments created a great, timeless song.

To some people, it’s ironic that Bob Dylan is considered one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Even those who love Dylan, and there are millions of people out there, have to admit that he’s not always the clearest, cleanest singer out there. You need look no further then Dylan’s recent performance of “Maggie’s Farm” at the 2011 Grammy Awards as evidence of what people mean. You could barely hear any of Dylan’s rambling lyrics, which is a shame considering how important the lyrics of the song are to understanding just how great of a talent Dylan truly is.

If you only know Dylan for his ramblings, you really need to do yourself a favor and check out his lyrics. Is he not the best singer out there? Absolutely. But you take a song like “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and read the lyrics, and you’ll see why he’s a modern day poet; the last of a generation that love to give a message, without bashing you over the head with it. Just take a look at the lyrics to “Maggie’s Farm” and see how it relates to the world we live in today as much as it did to the world that Dylan wrote it for in the 1960′s.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was on the Iron Butterfly album entitled “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, released in 1968. The song covered the entire flip side of the album, mostly with instrumentals. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida played for over seventeen minutes in its entirety. The single of the song held the number 30 spot on the U.S. Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

There are three various versions of how the song got its name. The original title was “In The Garden of Eden”, however through a mishap, the song received the name it is now known by.

The song’s title was given by one of three possibilities that exist in the history of this song. The first is that singer Doug Ingle was intoxicated and was unable to pronounce the words, forming the title that has stuck.

The liner notes inside the cover of “the best of” CD give the impression that drummer Ron Bushy listened to the track through a set of headphones. Apparently he couldn’t distinguish what Doug Ingle had said when he was asked what the title of the song was.

The third explanation of the title, as read in the liner notes of the 1995 re-release of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, is that Doug Ingle was intoxicated when first telling Bushy the title. Ron Bushy had written the title, but when Ingle had seen what he had scratched out on paper, the funny title stuck.

Su-Su -Sudio….What is Phil Collins talking about in that song? I’ve been a Phil Collins fan for quite a long time and have heard most of his music. Although I have not followed his personal life very closely, I would have to guess that “Sussudio” was a former lover. Singing the line “Su-Su-Sudio” is just for musical rhythm or emphasis, adding an extra syllable for beat like some singers have sung “Ba-ba-baby”. That would be my explanation. I mean it is an unusual name to say the least of course, and we don’t know if he made it up or if it really is someone’s name. Only Phil can really answer that one. I mean it makes sense in the context of the rest of the song, where he sings, “There’s a girl whose been on my mind, Sussudio”… Many singers infuse their songs with real or fictional names of lovers or former lovers to make their songs more meaningful and I’m sure Phil Collins is one of them. In one of his songs, the name of which escapes me right now, someone named “Suni” is referred to. Again, I have believed that to be a former lover of his.

One of my fondest concert memories was seeing John Fogerty live at South Street Seaport,www.southstreetseaport.com in Manhattan, summer of 2009. John Fogerty, FYI, was the force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival in the 70′s. That August night, Fogerty and his group of musicians, brought some of the greatest rock songs ever written to life, including Proud Mary, Run Through the Jungle, and Born on the Bayou. My favorite moment, however, was during his rendition of Bad Moon Rising. South Street Seaport has a public restroom located to the left of the main stage, but, obviously, if you are on stage facing the audience, the restroom is located to the right. During the final chorus of the song, John pointed to the restroom and, in the place of “There’s a bad moon on the rise”, he sang, “There’s a bathroom on the right”. Of course, to everyone in the audience, there was a bathroom on the left, so it took a few moments before the joke sank in. Before long, everyone laughed and applauded. It was a perfect rock ‘n’ roll moment. That he could notice this interesting coincidence and poke fun at his own song speaks to the genius of John Fogerty.

Pink has been hot atop the charts with her latest single “Raise Your Glass,” though lyrically it’s not without a little controversy. Though typically very good at enunciating her syllables, the thematic subject of the song (partying and partying hard), combined with phonetic similarities has contributed to debate in sing-a-long circles as to exactly what Pink is trying to say. To fully understand both points of view, let’s look inside the lyrics for a bit. The song startsRight, right, turn off the lights,We’re gonna lose our minds tonight,What’s the deal-io?I love when it’s all too much,5 a.m. turn the radio upWhere’s the rock and roll? Then the controversy sets in. Pink continues, “Party crasher, p___y crasher.” In one circle, listeners contend Pink clearly states “penny snatcher” while another group of listeners hold the proper line is “panty snatcher.” For those unfamiliar with the two terms in question, a penny snatcher is someone who is cheap or miserly, whereas panty snatcher is someone who takes part in a tradition known as “panty raids” or robs an underwear drawer at social events. Which lyric is right? Which one should it be? Consider the song’s refrainSo raise your glass if you are wrong,In all the right ways,All my underdogs,We will never be never be anything but loudAnd nitty, gritty, dirty, little freaksWon’t you come on and come on and raise your glass,Just come on and come on and raise your glass.Contextually speaking, panty snatcher actually makes significantly more sense. Nowhere in the song does it reference a lack of generosity, if anything, it seems to support a carefree lifestyle, “losing minds,” seemingly putting financial concerns on the backburner. A panty snatcher, on the other hand, could easily fit is as “wrong in all the right ways,” from a sexual standpoint, not to mention a “nitty, gritty, dirty, little freak.” Not to mention, panty raiding is more likely occurrence at a crashed party. So, what’s the final verdict? Most lyric sites will display the correct line as penny snatcher, and in all likelihood this is actually what Pink says on the record. However, panty snatcher is absolutely more logical, funnier and perhaps the stuff great parodies are made of. Either way, say what you want, it’s close enough to the point you can get away with saying what every you want in the car or on the karaoke stage, so have a little fun with it.
